How to Create a Business Startup Plan
5 min read
A practical sequence for turning an idea into a plan you can act on, without writing a 40-page document.
Start with the customer, not the product
A plan that names a specific customer and a specific problem is testable. A plan that describes a product in general terms is not. Write one sentence: who has this problem, how do they solve it today, and why would they change?
Work in this order
Each step narrows the decisions in the next one.
- Idea and customer
- Business model and pricing
- Cost estimate and budget
- Setup and compliance steps for your location
- Launch sequence for the first 90 days
Keep the numbers in one place
Pricing, unit cost, fixed costs and expected volume appear in almost every calculation you will do. Decide them once, then reuse them across your break-even, profit and budget work so the plan stays internally consistent.
